Overview

What's brewing in the region? A craft beer and liquor revolution, is what. In coastal towns, on hinterland estates, and in Geelong, breweries, cideries and distilleries are popping up and drawing legions of fans.

With its clear waters, fertile soils and unique microclimate, the region's beers are rich and diverse and range from briny bitters to crisp pale ales. See how the evolution of craft breweries in Geelong and the Bellarine has made the beloved brew a major player in the region's food and beverage scene.

Village life

Find many of life's little pleasures at Little Creatures. Wander through the brewery's Village wonderland in South Geelong to sample a few. Stop off at the Canteen for pale ales and pizzas, or try a Furphy Ale, made from locally sourced ingredients. Head on to the White Rabbit Barrel Hall for a glimpse at the sibling brewery’s beer-making process and a taste of their specialty beers, including an award-winning white ale, at the bar.

While in the neighbourhood, drop into the Bellarine Brewing Co's brewery for craft beers inspired by the region, such as Mussel Stout, Lonsdale Lager or Queenscliff Pale Ale.

Honing their craft

Newer to the scene but equally as exciting is Barrabool Hills Brewing Company in South Geelong, producers of the popular Cockies Pale Ale, and The Whiskery at Bellarine Distillery, makers of gin and whisky under the label Teddy & the Fox.

Other popular picks include the Pettavel Road Brewing Co, a specialised craft brewery producing pale, golden or amber ale in small batches and Flying Brick Ciders, makers of traditionally crafted ciders and one of Australia's fastest growing boutique cideries.

Nab a seat at the bar of the Queenscliff Brewhouse for an immersive experience in the best of all things local – craft beer, cider, wine, produce and live music to boot.
